Double thread geometry in use

The one-thread wood screw has a continuous helical thread from the tip of the shank to the head. A twin-start wood screw has two helices wound around the same core diameter . Two single-start screws joined together on the same centreline, but 180 degrees apart on the shank.

A 6.0 mm outer diameter double-thread wood screw with 1.8 mm lead may engage softwood (pine, spruce, cedar) in half the rotations of a coarse-thread single screw.
