3-in-1 Furniture Connector Kits

3-in-1 Furniture Connector Kits
Details:
Flat-pack furniture has transformed the way wardrobes, workstations, kitchen cabinets and shelving reach end users: panels are shipped flat, customers assemble at home and every joint has to stay tight for years without any visible hardware. That’s what a 3-in-1 furniture connector is for. Also known as a cam lock connector or cam fitting, this three-piece system brings two panels together with a single 90° rotation of the locking cam, leaving a flush, screw-free surface on the visible side. KEY-CNC (Shenzhen Feimoshi Technology Limited) has been manufacturing bespoke fasteners and precision machined parts since 2008, providing OEM connector kits to furniture brands, flat-pack retailers and contract manufacturers globally.

What Makes a 3-in-1 Furniture Connector a Three-Piece System

Every cam lock connector is really a matched system of three components, each with one job. The name "3-in-1" refers to exactly this trio:

product-2200-300

Component

Typical Spec

Role in the Joint

Cam bolt (screw)

M6 x 35/40/45 mm

Threads into the pre-inserted nut, transferring pull force to the cam

Cam lock (eccentric)

Ø12–15 mm, zinc alloy

Rotates 90° to trap the bolt head and draw panels together

Dowel pin

Ø6 x 40 mm

Aligns the panels and carries shear load between boards

The parts are dimensionally matched, so replacing one component with a random spare will usually weaken the joint. KEY-CNC machines the bolt shank, thread and cam contact face on CNC turning centres, holding the cam pocket depth, head diameter and eccentric profile to drawing so the lock engages consistently on every assembly. Because bolt length and cam pocket depth are set against the customer's panel thickness, the finished joint sits flush, with no protruding hardware and no visible gaps.

How Cam Lock Connects Panels

No screwdriver or wrench is needed to assemble the cam lock mechanism. End customers can complete the sequence without training:

1. Nut seating. In panel A, a blind hole is tapped or pushed with a pre-inserted nut using hardware insertion tooling.

2. Bolt drive. Thread the head of the cam bolt through panel B and into the cam pocket.

3. Align with dowel pin. Dowel pegs in matching holes on each panel keep the boards square and from slipping.

4. 90° turn cam. When closed, the eccentric cam lock passes over the bolt head and locks the joint flush.

This design is better than standard wood screws on particle board, MDF, and plywood where thread pull-out is a prevalent problem. The mechanical connection can be released and re-tightened multiple times. This is great for furniture that has to be disassembled, delivered and reassembled. It works great for minimalist and luxurious designs. The hardware vanishes into the panel and no screw head is visible.

Sizes, Materials and Finishes for Custom Kits

Standard kits are built around common board thicknesses, but OEM programmes regularly call for custom geometry. The table below covers the usual range:

product-1024-158

Parameter

Typical Range

Cam lock diameter

12–15 mm (custom up to 20 mm)

Cam bolt thread

M4–M8; lengths 25–60 mm

Pre-inserted nut

M4–M8, nylon or brass

Panel thickness

16 mm and above

Most custom orders are based on cam diameter and bolt reach. A larger cam spreads clamping force over a greater area, which assists on soft particle board, while bolt reach is set by the two panels' thickness and cam pocket depth. The customer drawing is reviewed by KEY-CNC engineers before quoting to identify interference, thread depth, and edge-distance issues before the assembly line.
Material selection follows shared duty. Industry-standard zinc alloy cams prevent corrosion at low cost; carbon steel bolts are zinc-plated to ASTM B633; nylon pre-inserted nuts isolate metal threads from the board and resist rust. 304 stainless steel bolts and anodized aluminium cams prolong furniture life in humid environments including kitchens, baths, and outdoor storage. Key-CNC may match the metal sections of a 3-in-1 furniture connector with clear anodising or coloured plating to match the furniture brand. Our anodising services and aluminium alloy 6061 vs. 7075 guide provide material information.

FAQ

Q: What board materials may these connector kits be used with?

A: Particleboard, MDF, plywood and solid timber greater than 16 mm. The mechanical cam joint is perfect for particle board and MDF, where wood-screw pull-out is rampant.

Q: Can we have different cam size, bolt length and finish?

A: OEM kits are manufactured to drawing and can include custom cam diameters, thread sizes, bolt lengths, plating colours and brand labelling. Samples will be supplied before mass production.

Q: Is the three-component kit complete?

A: Certainly. Sold either in retail-ready polybags or in bulk with matching bolt, cam and dowel sets. Some clients buy machined metal pieces and ordinary dowels separately.

Q: How do you secure production run locking?

A: ISO 9001:2015 CMM inspection regulates cam geometry and thread dimensions. Material certificates and dimensional reports are available upon request for critical batches.
