Custom Galvanized Steel Expansion Hook Anchor Bolt

Custom Galvanized Steel Expansion Hook Anchor Bolt
Details:
A galvanized steel expansion hook anchor bolt is a one-piece fastening solution: a mechanical expansion anchor and a load-ready hook in a single part. It turns a drilled hole in concrete or solid masonry into a permanent hanging point for cable trays, suspended piping, lighting fixtures, signs and machine guards. At KEY-CNC, every hook anchor bolt is made to order — hook style, opening, shank length, thread and finish are set to your drawing, with ISO 9001:2015-controlled production from prototype to full runs.

Hook Geometry: Open, Closed and In-Between

The hook geometry defines how the product connects, retains and carries the load. Different shapes are designed for different installation and holding requirements:

Open J-hook - Allows chains, ropes, cables or straps to be placed directly onto the hook without threading, making attachment and removal quick and convenient.

L-hook - Features a compact bent design for light-duty retention where installation space or clearance is limited.

Closed eye / ring - Creates a fully enclosed connection point that keeps the load securely captured. The circular design helps distribute stress evenly, making it ideal for permanent hanging or fixed mounting applications.

How the Expansion Grip Works in Concrete

The anchor section uses a split expansion sleeve and cone mechanism to create a secure hold inside concrete. As the nut is tightened, the cone is pulled into the sleeve, forcing the sleeve segments outward and generating radial pressure against the drilled hole wall. This torque-controlled expansion provides consistent and repeatable installation performance, allowing installers to confirm proper setting through the specified tightening torque.

Compared with a traditional wedge anchor, where a tapered wedge expands deeper into the concrete to develop holding force, a hook anchor bolt uses a more compact expansion zone designed for applications requiring shorter embedment depths, such as ceiling suspension and overhead mounting projects.

Installation and Retrofit Notes

Installation follows a simple sequence: drill → clean → insert → torque. For retrofit applications, the key advantage is that the anchor can be installed entirely from the exposed side. This allows existing concrete ceilings or slabs to be converted into secure hanging points without requiring access from above, eliminating the need for core drilling or backside patching.

For reliable load transfer, install a hardened washer beneath the nut to provide a stable bearing surface and prevent deformation during tightening. In environments subject to vibration, pairing standard nuts with split lock washers helps improve resistance to loosening over time. When the project requires precision-machined fastening components, our custom machined hex nuts are available to match the anchor thread specifications and assembly requirements.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between an expansion hook anchor bolt and a wedge anchor?

+

-

Both are mechanical expansion anchors, but the connection end is different. A wedge anchor uses a threaded stud for fastening structural components, while an expansion hook anchor bolt integrates a hook or eye for direct hanging applications. The hook design reduces extra hardware and simplifies installation. For threaded connection applications, see our wedge anchor concrete expansion anchor.

Can the hook be loaded sideways, or is it only for vertical hanging?

+

-

Hook anchors perform best when the load is applied in the hook's loading direction. Side loads create additional bending stress on the anchor and may reduce holding performance. For angled loading conditions, contact us to confirm the suitable hook design and embedment depth.

Is a closed eye stronger than an open hook?

+

-

A closed eye generally provides more even load distribution because the force is carried through a continuous loop. It is commonly used for permanent hanging points, while open hooks are preferred where quick attachment and removal are required.

What hole size and embedment depth does a hook anchor bolt require?

+

-

Hole size and embedment depth depend on the anchor specification. The hole diameter should match the anchor size, and installation depth should follow the recommended drawing or specification. Common metric sizes range from M6 to M24, with typical embedment depths of 25–90 mm.

Can you make custom hook sizes and finishes for OEM projects?

+

-

Yes. Hook dimensions, shank length, thread specifications, and surface finishes can be customized to meet your requirements. We support prototypes, small batches, and OEM production under ISO 9001:2015 quality control.
